“we seek only kinship. we inch ourselves closer to a community of cherished belonging. soon, we can then imagine a circle of compassion, with no one standing outside of that circle. we hope to dismantle the barriers that exclude. it is why we stand at the margins, so that the margins themselves will get erased.”
For over 35 years, Father Gregory Boyle and Homeboy Industries have served as a beacon of hope and renewal for the marginalized and underserved.
Each year over 10,000 former gang members and incarcerated people from across Los Angeles come through Homeboy Industries seeking to change the arc of their lives. They are welcomed into a community of radical kinship, unconditional love, and whole person healing where they can feel safe, seen and cherished.
Hope Village is a transformative development that
reimagines a key pocket of Los Angeles, replacing a
footprint that currently features a dilapidated jail and
vacant, aging properties, with an integrated, bustling
village anchored by radical kinship. It is a striking visual:
a jail is demolished and replaced with a village of hope
and healing. It includes:• Father Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship
• The Hilda L. Solis Care First Village
• The Robert K. Ross Center for Hope & Healing
• JCOD Warm Handoff Center
• New High Village
Hope Village imagines an inclusive space of hope, healing, wellness, and resources, where formerly incarcerated, unhoused, and other members of our community are welcome to access critical services. The goal: To make Men’s Central Jail less relevant and invest in people, instead of incarcerating them.
As THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND Hope Village, The Fr. GregORY Boyle Center for Radical Kinship
has the potential to shift how we treat the most
marginalized amongst us and rethink our approach
to incarceration and mental health issues.
Hope Village can become the proof of what is possible.
The expansion of Homeboy Industries’ campus,
The Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship will allow Homeboy to significantly expand its capacity to provide vital services and serve as an anchor and home base for Hope Village.
With the help of our donors, we plan to create a true urban campus with transitional and supportive housing. This will provide more than 200 beds and 35,000 square feet of new social service space for the marginalized and underserved.
The multi-phased campus evolution will also increase capacity to accommodate Homeboy’s full ecosystem of services including:
Through our McCourt Partners relationship and committed collaboration, we are partnering with Georgetown University to begin a nationwide movement for radical kinship.
Reimagining the geographic area that comprises Hope Village and making The Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship a reality will require action and commitment from the public, private and social sectors.
Please join us in making this dream a reality.
Our $100M budget for The Fr. Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship focuses on private funding needs and spans five primary areas:
